gornja-kravaricaThe village Gornja Kravarica is situated in the Lucani municipality, in Dragacevo, seven kilometres from the town Guca, and 160 kilometres from the capital of Serbia – Belgrade. It is situated at the spring area of the river which has the same name, among Golubac, Draca and Krstac, and it borders on villages: Rti, Donja Kravarica and Mirosaljci.

The name Kravarica is connected with the story which says that the cattle always found the best grass around the spring of a river in the village Gornji Rti, which exists today. That spring, from which the cows drank water after the pasture, was named Kravarica. Nearby the river which flows out from the spring, the village was founded, and it was split, in time, into two villages (Gornja and Donja Kravarica). This village was mentioned for the first time under its present name in the written documents dating from 1525, which are related to the town called Uzice, and in a document dating from 1476 it was mentioned under the name of the Kravaric village.

In 1895, threre were 720 inhabitants in this village, which was also the seat of the municipality (for two villages: Gornja Kravarica and Rti). In the study about Dragacevo daing from 1902, it is said that the oldest families in Gornja Kravarica were of a very old and unknown origin. They were: the Stanijevics, the Tomasevics, the Jelics, the Boskovics, the Danilovics, the Bogicevics, the Baralics, the Mijailovics, the Trifunovics, the Rosics, the Kovacevics, the Perovics, and the Radicevics. In 1931, there were 1.515 inhabitants in the village. It was completely inhabited by the Serbs (according to the register from 2002), and, according to the last three registers, a slight drop in the number of inhabitants was noticed.

Today, there are about 150 households in the village Gornja Kravarica, and according the register dating from 2002. – there are 419 inhabitants.

Gornja Kravarica is, for sure, a place which gives you relaxation away from the urban life, offering you fresh air, a smell of hay and flowers… Untouched nature, orchards and vineyards, woods and meadows, springs and small rivers, narrow roads and forest clearings are the ambient which does not let you feel indifferent. It is an oasis of peace, tranquility and silence. The area is equally attractive during all four seasons. Walks along the paths of Golubac mountain, bicycling up to Roman well and up to other hidden places of Dragacevo, collecting herbs and forest fruits, skiing and sledging, hunting and fishing – they form just a part of the memories which you can take with you after visiting this village. And above all, you will remember its nice hosts, who welcome and entertain every tourist as if he were their friend and cousin, offering them rich meals consisting of healthy and natural food. In Gornja Kravarica there are only two grocery stores, a four-year Primary school and the village cooperative, and, after only a fifteen-minutes walk on foot, you will find yourself in beautiful »Vajati«, a fairytale-like oasis for relaxation and pleasure.
